About The Blog
Background
Having originated from Reading, I am naturally a big fan of the Royals, however, since relocating to East Anglia in 2012, attending games regularly has been challenging - bar the odd away day at Portman Road or Carrow Road over the years.

I wanted to follow a more local team, but had some difficulties picking a team. My wife is from Suffolk and her family are huge Ipswich Town fans, which naturally ruled out Norwich City (the closest club), but also Ipswich Town as there was some rivalry with me being a Reading fan. Not being keen on Cambridge as a place, I looked to Essex which was a lot closer than I had imagined, travelling to Colchester from where I now reside is only 55mins.

My Dads side of the family originated in the North Essex/Suffolk region, and my Grandad was a keen footballer having played for Colchester United until he was seriously injured. Later on, he continued his passion for football and managed Witham Town for a number years. The choice was therefore easy and I started attending Col U games and quickly became a big fan of the club.

However, attending Col U games was not always easy as I have a young family, so I looked for a more local football fix, which is when I starting attending Thetford Town games, all the way down in Step 5/Tier 9 of the football pyramid. To my surprise, non-league football at this level was much higher quality than I had expected, and the entertainment levels were through the roof. Being able to watch a game with a pint in hand, standing right next to the pitch, chatting to your neighbours and watching local players really drew me in. Since then, I entered the 'worm-hole' and have been obsessed with non-league and amateur football ever since. I have visited most clubs in and around the Thetford and Brecks area, where I now follow several local teams such as Thetford Town, Mundford, Bury Town, Brandon Town, Lakenheath and Diss Town.

I began keeping a football match log, but decided it may be best to begin uploading this online so I can share my footballing exploits with the world. I hope that you enjoy the match reports and I encourage anyone reading this to go and see their local non-league and amateur teams, grassroots football needs your support!
