With the passing of Storm Babet, games were being cancelled left right and centre, but thankfully, just up the road, Mundford's game against Yelverton was still on, and the pitch looked great, especially considering the recent heavy rain. It was an interesting match up, both Mundford and Yelverton were enjoying strong starts to the season, so this was set to be a competitive game.

The temperature was mild, and there were on-off showers throughout the game, with nothing too heavy until the final moments. Both teams were out ready to kick-off at 14:00, with Mundford in their red and black stripes and Yelverton in a purple strip, but the game was delayed for 10 minutes as both teams waited for the referee, and as he was alone, volunteers from each team were required to run the lines.

KEY MOMENTS

MU = Mundford

YE = Yelverton

5' - MU - Fancett intercepts a loose clearance, takes the ball just into the box, and from a tight angle pings in a chipped effort, it was heading into the top left corner, but was tipped out for a corner by the keeper.

11' - MU - An amazing cross field ball from Neves sets Vickers loose down the right wing, he takes the ball into the box then cuts back for Carlos 'Rudy' Rocha, but his swiveled strike is powered over the bar.

12' - YE - Yelverton attack down the right wing, Hall takes the ball to the byline then squares back into the box, where a prodded shot from the No.7 flies wide across the face of the goal.

21' - YE - The No.11 whips a brilliant corner ball into the near-post, Hall rises highest and his glanced header sends the ball just wide of the far post.

25' - YE - The No.10 crosses the ball in from the right, it is met at the back of the box by the No.7, whose improvised side-footed volley travels wide of the upright, and yet another chance for Yelverton goes begging.

46' - YE - GOAL (0-1) - Yelverton break the deadlock after only 18 seconds into the 2nd half, a long ball is flicked on by the No.10 to release Hall, he takes the ball in and from the left-side of the box, lashes it into the top right corner to give Callum Hunt no chance, an emphatic finish to stun Mundford.

68' - YE - GOAL (0-2) - Mundford battle to get back into the game, creating a series of half-chances, but just as it feels like they are getting a foothold in the game, Yelverton unleash a suckerpunch to knock Mundford back again. A soft freekick is awarded by the referee in a dangerous position, the No.10 steps up and sends the ball to the far post, where centre-back Harding, rises highest and powers in the ball tight to the post.

82' - YE - GOAL (0-3) - Yelverton seal the win in a fortuitous manner. A mishit goalkick with a low trajectory is flicked on by the backheel of substitute No.14, and this plays through another substitute, Clarry, he remains composed as he is through on goal and buries the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal to deliver the knock-out punch and seal the win.

Not the best afternoon for Mundford in the end, they started brightly, but Yelverton played themselves back into the game, and started the 2nd half in the best possible way to peg Mundford back, and their 2nd goal came at the best possible time for them to more-or-less kill off the game. The performance from Mundford was scrappy and niggly, with a lot of misplaced passes and conceding a lot of fouls to break any momentum that they were building, although it does have to be said that some of the fouls were awfully soft. In contrast, Yelverton were organised, powerful and accurate, and kept their discipline a lot better than Mundford, and as such were much more efficient with the ball, and with their play, and this ultimately proved to be the difference between the sides. I hope that Mundford can learn from this game and push on for the rest of the season, after today they are 4th in the league, and not a long way off top, so it is all still to play for, UP THE STAGS!!!
